Meet our Experts - Terese Jarltoft

Terese Jarltoft is an animal scientist and calf specialist with more than 15 years of experience in calf and dairy-beef production. Her career combines extensive on-farm advisory work with applied research, data analysis and knowledge transfer, with a consistent focus on turning scientific evidence into practical improvements for farmers and their animals.

After graduating with an MSc in Animal Science from the University of Copenhagen in 2009, Terese began her career advising commercial dairy-beef producers. She subsequently joined the Danish agricultural advisory organization SAGRO, where she spent more than 12 years providing specialist advice to dairy and dairy-beef farms. Her work covered calf health, colostrum management, passive immunity, nutrition, housing, disease prevention, growth, production efficiency and economics.

Alongside her advisory career, Terese completed an Industrial PhD at Aarhus University in 2023. Her research investigated the use of ultrafiltration to enhance the passive immunity properties of low-quality colostrum. She has also contributed to and led several applied research and innovation projects concerning calf health, welfare, nutrition, antimicrobial use and the implementation of scientific knowledge under commercial farm conditions.

Terese currently works as Calf and Dairy-Beef Calf Specialist at VikingDanmark. Her advisory approach combines herd data and key performance indicators with observations of animals, facilities, routines and the people caring for the calves. This enables her to develop farm-specific strategies that are scientifically sound, economically relevant and realistic to implement.

She is also a board member of the Danish Cattle Levy Fund and contributes to strategic industry collaborations and research initiatives. Across all her work, Terese is driven by a desire to bridge science and practice, support lasting behavioural change and create healthier calves, more resilient production systems and a more sustainable livestock sector.
