Rob Grinnall is a veterinary surgeon with more than 30 years of experience in animal health, livestock production and international agricultural trade. After qualifying in 1988, he spent over two decades in equine veterinary practice, working at racecourses and major equestrian events across the UK, including Hickstead and the Horse of the Year Show.
Alongside his veterinary career, Rob has been involved in pedigree sheep and goat breeding since 2000, developing a strong interest in livestock genetics, performance recording and breed improvement. This practical farming background led him into the field of livestock exports and international trade, where he has become a recognised advocate for British genetics and breeding programmes.
Since 2018, Rob has focused on supporting the UK livestock sector through export development, market access and international engagement. Working with Export Certification Limited, the UK Export Certification Partnership (UKECP) and UKTAG, he has helped breeders, breed societies and genetic companies expand opportunities in overseas markets.
Rob works closely with Defra, APHA and the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), providing industry input on animal health, certification, trade policy and export procedures. He is regularly involved in discussions with government officials, veterinary authorities and industry leaders to help address trade barriers and facilitate international market access.
In recent years, he has led and participated in trade missions across Central Asia, North Africa, and North & South America, promoting British livestock genetics and agricultural expertise. His work continues to strengthen relationships between UK breeders, international partners and government stakeholders, helping to enhance the global reputation of the British livestock industry.
