Niels Geurts is part of our network of experts, read on to hear more about his work.

Niels Geurts has built a career deeply rooted in veterinary practice and calf health. After graduating from Utrecht University in 2002 with a degree in veterinary medicine, he gained experience across several veterinary practices before joining Thewi BV in 2006. Two years later, he became co-owner of the practice, which today comprises a team of ten certified veterinarians specialising in veal and beef.

Much of Niels’ work focuses on advising farmers and technicians on the many factors involved in raising calves. His guidance spans health care, welfare, management, housing, climate, and feed, and he supports clients both within the Netherlands and internationally.

Niels has contributed to sector-wide progress as well. He played a role in developing guidelines for veterinarians working with veal calves and helped identify the critical success factors that enabled reductions in antibiotic use within the Dutch veal industry. His expertise is further recognised through his membership on the expert panel on infectious diseases.

Alongside his practical work, Niels has co-authored scientific articles, participated in clinical trials, and shared his findings through oral presentations and posters at multiple World Buiatrics Congresses.
