Line Fruergaard-Roed is a veterinary surgeon with more than 20 years of experience in cattle practice, reproduction, veterinary education, and herd health management. Line graduated from the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University in Copenhagen in 2004 and subsequently spent 20 years in cattle practice in Himmerland, Denmark.
A central focus throughout Line’s career has been supporting dairy herds facing reproductive challenges. Her work covers all aspects of bovine reproduction, from practical reproductive examinations to the systematic investigation of poor fertility at herd level. By combining reproductive data with knowledge of herd routines, transition cow management, heat detection, insemination practices, and animal health, she identifies the underlying causes of reproductive problems and develops practical, herd-specific solutions. In 2015, she qualified as a Specialist Veterinarian in Cattle Health and Production.
Since 2010, Line has collaborated closely with Viking on development projects and the training of artificial insemination technicians and veterinarians. Viking is a farmer-owned cooperative and a key provider of reproductive and genetic advisory services. Its team of artificial insemination technicians is responsible for approximately 80% of all cattle inseminations in Denmark. Line has also led reproduction courses, facilitated farmer discussion groups, and collaborated on projects with the University of Copenhagen.
Line’s second major area of expertise is on-farm biosecurity. She has taught biosecurity to both farmers and veterinarians and, since 2022, has coordinated the national initiative “Tag smitten ved hornene” (“Take Infection by the Horns”).
Since 2024, Line has headed Viking Academy, where she is responsible for specialist advisory services and holds professional responsibility for reproduction and biosecurity consultancy.
