Tom graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2017 and completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Veterinary Clinical Practice the following year. He works full time as a veterinary surgeon at Synergy Farm Health, a large, farm-only practice in southwest England.
Herd (and flock!) health and fertility are of particular interest to Tom, and as his understanding of what makes a sustainable system has increased, Tom has appreciated the role these areas have to play in farming systems. Tom helps lead the beef services and several client discussion groups at the practice. The way economic and ethical sustainability - often the focus of efforts on a day to day basis - link to environmental benefits, adds huge significance to both farm vetting and the role as a VetSalus director.
Tom was one of the original participants in VetSalus’ Approach to Sustainable Food and Farming course and from there, his interest in sustainability deepened. In 2025, Tom became a director at VetSalus and represents the organisation on the Global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef. He has found it extremely rewarding to see firsthand the enthusiasm that there is for veterinary input into discussions on One Health, and to engage with those companies and organisations in the vital role of animal agriculture within sustainable food systems. Tom is currently pursuing a Masters in Sustainable Agriculture at Aberystwyth University.
