Lewis Griffiths

VetSalus is delighted to announce that it has been awarded the New Zealand Veterinary Association’s Environmental Sustainability Award. This is presented annually to individuals or veterinary businesses, within New Zealand, to recognise leadership and/or collaboration to improve environmental sustainability.

VetSalus is an international veterinary group, with an active presence in the United Kingdom, Denmark and New Zealand and its primary aims are to provide leadership, education and to seek opportunities for veterinarians skilled in various aspects of One Health. In a world challenged by climate change, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and changing agricultural practices, the linkage of human, animal  and environmental health is an important area of scientific development. VetSalus has been active in this important niche since 2018.

Specifically in New Zealand, the business has provided news items and free resources on various aspects of sustainability, including animal welfare, AMR and veterinary engagement. It has also launched two online courses aimed at improving veterinary knowledge in sustainability. Full details of these can be found at : https://vetsalus.com/learn

The VetSalus executive team in New Zealand is led by Warren Webber, who is supported by NZ directors Mark Bryan and Lewis Griffiths.  A number of projects are currently underway, including work on increasing vet engagement in the reduction of farm carbon footprints.

Director Lewis Griffiths adds,

“ It is particularly pleasing to find that our work and efforts to promote and advance sustainability within the New Zealand veterinary profession has been recognised by our peers. Of necessity, many of our activities involve low key communication within our profession and this award represents wonderful recognition of our work.”

VetSalus is also pleased to recognise the awarding of the NZVA President’s Award, its most prestigious award, to New Zealand Director Mark Bryan. His citation reads Mark… “ has had an extensive career dedicated to advancing veterinary science and animal welfare. In addition, Mark has volunteered 20 years’ service to the NZVA as a DCV Committee Member, Board Member and Antimicrobial Resistance Committee Chair.”

The VetSalus board is delighted to extend its congratulations to both Mark and its New Zealand team.
