Tom Angel is part of our network of experts, read on to find out a little more about his work.
Tom Angel qualified as a veterinary surgeon in 2019 and has since worked in a large dairy practice, where he applies principles of evidence-based veterinary medicine, education, and sustainability to both the practice and the agricultural industry it serves.
In July 2022, Tom began a residency programme with the Royal Veterinary College, alongside his clinical work, to pursue a Master’s in Veterinary Medicine and become a Diplomat of the European College of Bovine Health Management, which he is set to complete later this year.
As part of his residency programme, Tom has been actively involved in research, publishing work on computer vision and currently investigating the effects of sedation on calf disbudding outcomes. He also dedicates significant time to teaching veterinary students, leading both practical and classroom sessions.
His clinical work is primarily focused on dairy herds, working with a range of farms from 40 to over 2,000 milking cows. He remains committed to staying informed on recent literature in cattle health and production, applying relevant research to improve herd health and performance of the herds he works with. His key areas of interest include monitoring transition cow success, subclinical hypocalcaemia, and implementing new diagnostic techniques, such as quick thoracic ultrasound, to enhance calf health and lifetime production.
