Meet our Experts - Thomas Dahl Nissen

Thomas Dahl Nissen is part of our network of experts, read on to find out a little more about his work.

Thomas Dahl Nissen was educated as a veterinarian in 2001 and has worked as a farm veterinarian for approximately 10 years, primarily specializing in herd health management. Additionally, he has been involved in research, focusing on pain management and drug development, for about seven years.

He values working closely with farmers, effectively communicating new knowledge in an accessible manner, and assisting in the implementation of innovative solutions in real-world settings to enhance animal health—for the benefit of both the animals and farmers. He is particularly appreciative of the extensive data available from dairy farms, as analyzing and interpreting this data allows him to pinpoint key issues and develop tailored solutions for each farm.

Alongside his work in practice, Thomas is currently employed at the Danish agricultural organization SEGES, where he works on contagious diseases, strategies for preventing their spread, and overall biosecurity measures. He places great emphasis on continually updating his knowledge and expanding his expertise through literature, seminars, interest groups, and conferences.

Professionally, he has a strong interest in herd health management, aiming to improve animal health and productivity by integrating available data with the latest research findings. His particular areas of focus include disease prevention, mastitis control, and the prudent use of antibiotics. He is recognized as a professional, organized, and thorough individual who enjoys collaborating with a diverse range of people.

With his combined experience in veterinary practice and research, Thomas is regarded as a competent consultant. His skills provide him with in-depth knowledge of the dairy industry, the ability to assess new research, coordinate projects, and communicate effectively with individuals across varying levels of expertise.
