From the southern oceans to the highest echelons of food regulation in the UK and Europe, Dr Jason Aldiss’s career has been anything but conventional. Born in Australia, raised in New Zealand, and partly educated aboard ship, Jason developed a unique global perspective from an early age—along with a strong sense of duty, discipline, and curiosity that continues to shape his leadership today.
A graduate of Massey University’s renowned veterinary programme (1993) and a Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons since 1995, Jason has spent more than 30 years delivering and reforming Official Controls—the systems that safeguard food safety, animal welfare, and public health in the meat sector. He is internationally recognised for his work in regulatory reform, export certification, and the integration of cutting-edge technologies into the food assurance landscape.
Jason served for nearly 25 years as Managing Director of Eville & Jones, transforming it into the UK’s largest provider of veterinary inspection services. Today, as Executive Director of AIMS—the leading trade body representing the entire meat industry across the British Isles—he leads national and international efforts to modernise food policy, defend high standards, and support a fair, competitive market for British meat producers.
He is also President of the Union of European Veterinary Hygienists (UEVH), a past President of the Veterinary Public Health Association (VPHA), and a seasoned contributor to the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe (FVE). His work regularly bridges operational delivery and strategic diplomacy—whether advising on the UK’s e-border, establishing animal ID systems in South Asia, promoting AI-driven carcase inspection, or advocating for blockchain-enabled traceability.
In January 2017, Jason was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to veterinary public health and the meat industry.
Jason’s contribution extends beyond the professional sphere. In 2024, he made history by being elected Master of the York Gild of Butchers, the first veterinary surgeon ever to hold this post since the Gild’s formation in 1282. He is also a Court Assistant of the Worshipful Company of Butchers in London, a role that continues his commitment to upholding the honour, craft, and public responsibility of the meat trade.
He is a respected voice in civic and faith-based communities as well, serving as Provincial Grand Knight of the Knights of St Columba in Tyne-Tees & Yorkshire and a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.
