Governance Changes at VetSalus

Lewis Griffiths

Over the last year or so, VetSalus has been experiencing a period of growth and increased activity and some changes to directorships and governance structure have become inevitable. The company, based as it is upon investments from three founding countries, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Scandinavia has a somewhat complex governance structure based on Regional Investment Groups and each of these has the right to appoint two directors.

Following the recent appointment of Katrine Lawaetz to the VetSalus Chair [1] a second Scandinavian Director, Peter Dahlgaard has been appointed to the Board. Peter, who is an experienced practice owner with skills ranging from project management to coding, also holds the position of Chairman of Dyrlæger & Ko.

Andrew Davies, of Synergy Farm Health Ltd, has recently retired from his Directorship of that company, and has also chosen to resign as one of the UK Founder Directors of VetSalus. We wish Andrew much health and happiness in his retirement, knowing that he will keep himself busy and that we can continue to draw on his expertise in future. Andrew has been replaced by Tom Warboys, a Synergy veterinarian who has completed the VetSalus Lantra-accredited course in Sustainable Food and Farming, and is currently studying for a Masters in Sustainable and Efficient Production.

Ilyse Jennens has also been appointed as a director, representing New Zealand. This position was previously held by founder Director Lewis Griffiths. Ilyse is a veterinarian at Franklin Vets in New Zealand’s  North Island, where she is also a shareholder and Director; she too has completed the VetSalus’ Lantra-accredited course in Sustainable Food and Farming.

Lewis Griffiths has moved into the role of Independent Director and will be spending some time reviewing VetSalus’s corporate documents as the company beds in its revised governance structure and looks to the future, which may well see the appointment of an independent chair in the not too distant future. The remaining members of the VetSalus Board, Katrine Lawaetz as Chair/ Scandinavian director, David Black as UK/ Managing Director and Mark Bryan as New Zealand Director remain unchanged as do the Executive, led by CEO Alice Geddes.
