On June 25, a historic agreement was signed between the Government and the parties in the Green Tripartite (Agriculture & Food, Denmark's Nature Conservation Association, Food Federation NNF, Danish Metal, Danish Industry and the National Association of Municipalities).
The agreement, once it has been voted through (Folketinget) the Danish Parliament, will form the basis for a long term sustainability transformation of Denmark's food and agricultural production. This agreement also includes incentives which are necessary to drive change throughout the sector. An agreement solely focused on CO2 taxation would have put extra pressure on the producers who want to improve biodiversity, ecology or animal welfare. Instead, we have a solution where farmers who put in extra effort across the herd are rewarded for it. This is something we have put a lot of emphasis on during talks with the Danish players.
Some of the more specific measures from the agreement are:
CO2 tax will be introduced into Danish agriculture at DKK120/tonne CO2 from 2030
Support for the establishment of 250,000 hectares of new forest until 2045
Support for the withdrawal of 140,000 hectares of carbon-rich lowland soils, including marginal areas, by 2030
A historically high amount of approximately DKK 40 billion is set aside for this work from Denmark's Green Area Fund. Additionally Novo Nordisk has pledged financial support of DKK 10 billion. DKK Our job at VetSalus and Dyrlæger & Ko is to support and advise our customers and partners within their green transition. So Denmark can continue to produce some of the world's best food while ensuring animal welfare and sustainability in production.
